Bioenergy Upgrades

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking services of a qualified consultant for the design of the Bioenergy Upgrades Project. This key capital improvement project is expected to include the construction of a new digester (Digester No. 5) with a gas membrane cover, replacement of the existing waste gas burners with a new waste gas burner system, and construction of new food waste slurry receiving, storage, pumping, and conveyance facilities.

Anticipated design and engineering services will include project management, environmental and existing site documentation, permitting assistance, geotechnical investigation, preparation of technical and design information memoranda, preparation of construction contract documents (plans, specifications, and opinion of probable construction cost) ready for bid, and engineering services during construction. The Request for Proposal is expected to advertise in Spring 2026.

Primary Effluent Pipeline Improvements

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking services of a qualified consultant for the design of a new floating Primary Effluent Pipeline (PEP) (approximately 1,500 feet) to supplement its existing PEP at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). Currently, all primary effluent flows from the primary sedimentation basins to the oxidation ponds, and the purpose of this project is to ensure the WPCP can continue to reliably convey primary treated wastewater to the ponds, as well as accommodate any operational changes from future projects per the updated Master Plan (currently underway).

Anticipated design services will include project management, environmental documentation, permitting assistance, geotechnical investigation, preparation of construction contract documents (plans, specifications, and opinion of probable construction cost) ready for bid, as well as engineering services during construction.  The Request for Proposal is expected to re-advertise early 2026.
